In your own words, list three important points that are made by the document’s author. Why was the document written? What type of document is it (letter, speech, autobiography, diary, law, etc)? Is the document believable? By this, you should think about the writer’s point of view. For example, if Christopher Columbus wrote a letter that describes all the great spices he found on his journey, should we believe him? Why or why not? What does it tell us about the society that it came from? What does it mean to you? How does it help you understand the author, time period, event, etc?
